What does ELMO Payroll do?
ELMO provides a wider HR and workforce platform. Its current payroll offering connects organisations with a network of payroll providers and aligns mapped employee information between HR and the selected payroll engine. The underlying payroll solution matters: ELMO describes a choice of providers, rather than one universal engine.
Where it fits
Consider the wider platform when HR, employee records and payroll need to work together. For timepilot, the relevant question is which payroll engine receives reviewed hours in your particular configuration.
What to check first
Identify your selected provider and supported access. This guide’s connection scope is limited to eligible Employment Hero/KeyPay-backed configurations; it does not cover every ELMO payroll partner or HR module.

Know what sits behind your setup.
Engine eligibility
ELMO offers multiple engines and partner choices. Confirm a KeyPay-powered payroll configuration before proceeding.
Payroll identity, not HR identity
A person appearing in the HR directory is not automatically the selected payroll Employee.
Verified categories and locations
Use underlying payroll assignments. Local labels and client references need explicit mappings.
Eligibility comes before the hand-off.
Paper on the factory floor
An ELMO environment may still receive signed sheets from a workshop. First establish where those hours reach payroll and whether the underlying engine qualifies.
External hours beside existing records
Identify HR, rostering and time feeds before adding external hours. A scoped hand-off must complement existing data rather than duplicate it.
Source. Review. Payroll.
Identify the payroll engine
Ask your payroll Administrator or ELMO contact to confirm the configuration and existing feeds.
Review external work
Keep supported source documents, employee links and corrections together.
Verify the hand-off
Confirm business access, mappings and writable states before activating a scoped transfer.
Keep existing payroll protected.
An eligible KeyPay-powered setup follows the shared payroll conflict rules: add-only by default, locked and unknown work held, exact replacement previews and explicit confirmation. Unrelated payroll entries remain untouched.
Corrections after approval require another review. An uncertain delivery must be reconciled before retrying. Pay calculation and finalisation remain in your payroll system.
Scope and setup requirements
- Confirmed KeyPay / Employment Hero-powered ELMO Payroll configurations only. Other ELMO engines and HR are separate.
- Authorised payroll-business access and explicit Employee links.
- Verified category assignments, existing entries and writable payroll states.
- No blanket ELMO coverage; other payroll engines need a separate assessment.
- No ELMO HR, recruitment, onboarding or general workforce synchronisation.
- Configuration-specific access and transfer verification are required.
Your questions, answered.
Does every ELMO Payroll setup use KeyPay?
No. ELMO describes several payroll engines and partner options. Only confirmed KeyPay-powered configurations qualify for this route.
How do I check our engine?
Ask your payroll Administrator or ELMO contact which engine runs payroll and which Australian business holds the records.
Can I use it before eligibility is confirmed?
Discuss the workflow first. Transfers remain off until eligibility, authorised access and verification are complete.
