Simple files. Clear hand-offs.
A straightforward row of hours can go a long way. Use CSV to bring work into review or hand checked data to your next system.

A practical bridge between systems.
Hours from another tool
A rostering or time-recording tool can provide CSV rows without changing how people record their shifts. Check that its export uses timepilot’s structured headers and preserves employee codes.
A file for payroll
Export eligible reviewed Line items as CSV. Confirm the payroll product’s required columns, codes and date conventions before importing. File compatibility is a separate decision from a direct connection.

A few field rules make the difference.
- Put recognised field names in the first row: employeeName, employeeCode, date, start, end and breakMinutes are common fields.
- Use one work entry per row, with dates as YYYY-MM-DD and times as 24-hour HH:MM.
- Keep leading zeros in employee codes when opening or saving the file in a spreadsheet application.
- Quote values containing commas or quotation marks correctly. Check the saved file rather than relying only on the spreadsheet view.
- Missing or invalid fields and unresolved Employee identities require review. Export only the eligible, approved work your process permits.
The format changes. The review stays.
- Bring the source
Import supported records and keep the original values available for comparison.
- Resolve and approve
Match Employees, correct exceptions and record the approval your Company requires.
- Export eligible work
Choose the file format and check it against the receiving system before completing the hand-off.
CSV questions, answered.
Is every payroll CSV the same?
No. Products differ in headers, employee codes, date formats and earnings fields. Confirm the destination’s file specification before using the export.
What if a name contains a comma?
Use standard CSV quoting so the name remains one field. Check that saving from your spreadsheet tool preserves the intended rows and values.
Does a CSV import bypass review?
No. Structured reading avoids interpreting an image, but matching, invalid values, corrections and approval still belong in the review workflow.
